Cains City Council has committed to spend $178 million on its Clean Seas revamp of waste water treatment in the city. Early estimates during the planning phase of $120 million some time ago fell short due to the skyrocketing construction and engineering costs.
The project brings with it huge economic benefits to the region such as the employment of hundreds of trades and service companies and support people. In addition this project makes provision for the additional capacity required for years to come for the city’s outstanding population growth as one of the fastest growing regional areas in Queensland.
The Cleaner Seas Project is being delivered by an alliance between Cairns Water, Cairns City Council and an expert team involving United Group Limited Infrastructure, CEC Construction, GHD and Sinclair Knight Merz (SKM).
